Craniofacial surgery week

Another great meeting at the Craniofacial Centre. Here is a report from Dr Zaid
On 6th March, 2020 a team of four surgeons namely Dr.Abdul Ahmed, Dr. Abdul Dalgous, Dr. Shahme Farooque and Dr. Sunil Sah came from UK to the Craniofacial Centre Janakpurdham, Nepal to operate on number of cases as well as to get involved in the various other activities held at the centre.
We also had Dr. Jayanth from Bangalore who joined us to operate on various cleft cases.
To start with, on 6th of March, 2020 the surgeons saw the patients in out-patients and thereby admitted those in whom the Maxillofacial surgical procedures were indicated. This was followed by the extensive case discussions of individual cases among the surgeons to come to the best possible treatment plan.
On 7th of March, 2020 we lined up three cleft cases to be operated by Dr. Jayanth. In the morning the surgeon as well as the Anaesthetist saw those cases and thereafter giving fitness to the cases posted them for surgery. By the end of the day we operated three cleft babies and the procedures went uneventful.
On 8th of March, 2020 we organised the "ONE DAY BASIC IMPLANT COURSE" for the dental practitioners. The course was mentored by Dr. Abdul Dalghous and we had an overwhelming response from all the participants. The course started with the lecture followed by hands-on and it concluded with live demonstrations on a goat mandible. The day went well and indeed the course was fruitful in every way for all of us.
On 9th of March, 2020 Dr. Abdul Ahmed and Dr. Shahme Farooque operated on the 14 years old boy diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis. The patient wanted surgery for the cosmesis reason hence Debulking of the tissue was planned for the patient and the procedure went uneventfully.
On 10th of March, 2020 Dr. Abdul Ahmed and Dr. Shahme Farooque operated on the 54 years old male patient diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the lower anterior alveolus region. The patient underwent marginal resection of the anterior mandible following by the excision of the extension into adjacent labial mucosa. The procedure went uneventful.
On 11th of March, 2020 the surgeons reviewed the operated cases and no post op complications were seen in either of them.
As a whole the week was very exhaustive, informative, and we got to learn a lot from the experts of their respective fields. We got an opportunity to assist the best surgeons and learned about the art of surgery. This program will surely help us improve as surgeons and we hope such programs continue to happen in the future so that we are able to reach more number of people of the society and more patients get benefited with our service.
Thank you
Well done everybody. Thank you for all your hard work... followed by a little relaxation afterwards at the Everest base camp
